Quick and easy to make and a family favorite by far! Happy family, happy me! This dish could be enjoyed with a braai as a side dish or as a meal on its own. Freezer friendly and can be baked and frozen up to 3 months.
6 potatoes cut into 5 mm slices
2 onions, chopped
250g sliced brown mushrooms
250g bacon sliced or salami
500ml bechamel sauce, medium thick (see your Boerekos with a Twist recipe book for an easy Premix white sauce or a standard Bechamel sauce recipe)
250g cream cheese
100g gruyere or extra mature cheddar cheese
1 bunch chopped fresh basil
1tbsp smoked Spanish paprika
Preheat oven to 180C.
Arrange veggies in an ovenproof dish.
Mix the hot bechamel sauce with the cheeses and spoon over the veggies.
Bake 45 minutes with lid and uncover and bake crisp for 10min at 200C.
