 Ons het hierdie as kinders baie saam met my ma gebak. Vandag sit ek die tradisie voort en elke vakansie bak ons crunchies. Soms sit ek so bietjie vrugte mengsel in of deesdae vir die kinders sit ek sjokolade splinters of selfs oorskiet fudge in die beslag, ek het selfs nou die dag korente in gesit om van pekans nie eens te praat nie! Om dit te doen kan jy so 100 ml by sit van die bo genoemde sonder om die balans van die resep te versteur.

RESEP
125 ml Nutty wheat
125 ml Koekmeel
250 ml Sagte bruinsuiker (treacle sugar)
250 ml Hawermout
250 ml Klapper
2.5 ml fyn Gemmer of kaneel
10 ml Sesame saad
125 g Botter
5 ml Koeksoda
30 ml Goue stroop
30 ml Warm water

METODE
1. Meng die nuttywheat, koekmeel, bruinsuiker, hawermout, klapper, gemmer en sesame saad saam.

2. Meng die koeksoda, goue stroop, botter en warm water saam en roer deeglik om te meng.

3. Meng die droë bestanddele by die vloeistof om ‘n sagte deeg te vorm.

4. Jy kan die deeg op twee maniere vorm. Rol balletjies of bak koekies met dit. Vir stafies druk alles in gesmeerde oondpan en bak en sny dadelik as dit uit die oond kom.

5. Bak by 160 ˚ C tot goudbruin vir 10 – 15 minute vir die balletjies of 20 – 25 minute vir die oondpan.

6. Onthou hoe langer die beslag bak hoe harder word dit. Sommige mense hou van dit sag en kluitjierig en ander hou daarvan krakerig.

7. Sodra die vingers of koekies afgekoel het sprinkel gesmelte sjokolade oor.

Crunchies
125 ml Nutty wheat
125 ml Flour
250 ml soft Brown Sugar
250ml Oats
250 ml Coconut
2.5 ml ground Ginger or Cinnamon
10 ml Sesame seed
125 g Butter
5 ml Bicarbonate of Soda
30 ml Golden Syrup
30 ml hot Water

Optional
100 ml of either the following can be added; fruit mix, chocolate, pieces of fudge, currants, pecans, the list is endless…..

METHOD
      1. Mix the nuttywheat, flour, brown sugar, oats, coconut, ginger and sesame seeds together.

  1. Mix the bicarbonate of soda, syrup, butter and hot water together and stir the mixture thoroughly.
  1. Mix the dry ingredients to the liquid, to form a soft dough.
  1. You can choose from 2 methods for the baking. Roll balls to bake cookies or for finger, press the dough into a greased baking sheet and bake. Cut as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  1. Bake at 160°C until golden brown. Bake the balls 10 – 15 minutes; and the baking sheet  20-25 minutes.
  1. Some people like their Crunchies to be soft and chewy, and other like it to be crisp. Remember the longer the baking, the more crispy it becomes.
  1. Once either the fingers or cookies have cooled, it can be decorated with melted chocolate.

HOEVEELHEID: 20 stafies as dit grotes is en 40 koekies.
